Harriers’ Rivera and
Wenninger Take 10K Carlos
Rivera captured his second 10K while Heather Wenninger took her
first Snowstorm Classic title at the third race of the 98-99 season. Carlos duplicated his
effort of two weeks ago, running 34:53 to again beat Steve O’Neil
who managed to close the gap with a 35:24, thereby lowering his own record for 47 year old
men by 22 seconds. Bob Willis was third in 36:46 on a cold, clear
day. Heather not only garnered her first Snowstorm Classic victory but her time of
42:47 obliterated an age record which was nearly as old as she is, erasing Sarah
Goff’s 50:27 for 15 year olds set nearly 14 years ago on January 12, 1985.
Meanwhile CMS’s Mary Ryczek added to her cache of age records
with a 43:42 clocking as a 52 year old, eliminating the 47:40 set by GSH’s Doris
Aronson in 1984. On the opposite end of the age spectrum, SMAC’s
eleven year old Jesse Regnier scampered over the ten thousand meters in
45:20 to shatter the 54:22 standard set by Mike Roberts in 1995.
