Flying Fratini Brothers Are
Back
It’s been a while since both Peter and Paul Fratini have been in decent shape, what
with the usual injuries, life changes, etc. that beset us all. But today’s Snowstorm
Classic may be a harbinger of the year 2001 as the 35 year old twins dominated the 5K
jaunt through Forest Park. Paul notched his first Snowstorm victory of the season with a
brisk 17:54 clocking over the frozen park roads. Peter, who garnered his first win two
weeks ago, matched strides for the first mile or so before drifting into second with an
18:28 effort.
John Bigos (19:19) bested the rest
of the field to win the masters division over Seth Roberts (19:43) as Harriers again took
the top seven spots. Art Roberts (19:51) again narrowly missed a “Roland record”
to win the senior division while David Estabrook (19:55) took junior honors.
The Champ (AKA Doug Blanchard) used
the improved course conditions to slice another minute and a half off the record for 75
year old men, dropping the barrier to an impressive 25:19. Wait until conditions really
improve!
Among the women, Deb Bercovici
(22:07) edged Mary Misiaszek (22:28) for the blue ribbon while first junior Katie Compton
(26:55) took third. Novice runner Debbie Askwith finished her first ever race in 52:09,
wisely leaving herself plenty of leeway for future pr’s.
