Senior Women Shine
Brian
Nelson had a successful Snowstorm Classic debut as the 21 year old
from the Nutmeg state traversed the Forest Park 10K course in 37:05 to
edge Harrier favorites Steve Byrne (37:21) and Peter Fratini (37:31).
Central Mass's Steve O'Neil (38:29) was fourth to capture both the
master title over Tim Brown (38:40) and the senior title over Seth
Roberts (40:38). Alan Bohdiewicz (39:08) outran Matt Bourgoin (40:50)
for junior honors.
Dawn Roberts (43:52) edged teammate Mary Misiaszek
(43:54) to add another Snowstorm Classic victory to her 2nd place
all-time win totals, while Deb Bercovici (46:17)
placed third.
This time it was the senior women who took advantage of
the pleasant winter weather. Mary Ryczek's second attempt at toppling
Harrier Doris Aronson's 48:12 standard for 55 year women proved
successful. After withstanding nearly fourteen years of challenges,
the record has fallen to 47:53. And Hartford Track Club's Zofia Turosz
took aim at Connie Bills'
53:32 record for 63 year old women which has stood for nearly twelve
years. With husband and friends cheering on in her native Polish, she
glided over the roads in 53:03 to add individual age record #6 on the
10K course to her scrapbook.
