Rivera 17, Roberts 28, Blanchard Loses 1 and
Gains Another!
Carlos Rivera ran away from the rest of the field to capture his
first Snowstorm Classic win of the season in a quick 16:56. The
victory was his 17th lifetime and moves him past Steve O’Neil
into fourth place in the \Snowstorm Classic Hall of Fame. Twenty-one
year old Tom Michaud was a game 2nd in 17:43 while
Harrier stalwart Steve Byrne led a team of GSHers for 3rd
in 17:55. John Cote was first master in 19:26 while Seth Roberts
took senior honors in 20:18.
Dawn Roberts
also captured her first win of the season with a solid 20:18
clocking, thus notching her 28th lifetime victory and
moving her one step closer to Hall of Fame leader Mary Ryczek.
Teammate Mary Misiaszek was second for the second week in a row in
21:45 while Ruth Griffiths placed 3rd in 23:15. Kim
Freedman was first master in 24:03 while Ellen Bellicchi was first
senior in 24:57.
Charlie Towse
added to his credentials as fastest runner in the family by cracking
another one of Doug Blanchard’s age records. The 65 year old
Harrier speedster ran 21:07 over the USATF certified course to chop
nearly a minute off the 21:59 standard Doug set twelve years ago. In
fact, Charlie ran six seconds faster then he did when he set the
record for 64 year old men last year! Olympics in 2008 Charlie?
Meanwhile
Doug was never one to rest on his laurels. If you lose one, you gain
another. With a 27:58 effort Doug ties the record for 77 year old
men set by GSHer Robert Knowlton seven years ago.
