Déjà Vu: Carlos Rivera and Kelly Heroux Win
It was another stroll in Forest Park for Carlos Rivera and Kelly
Heroux as the two speedy Harriers repeated their winning ways, this
time on the 10K course. If that sounds familiar….that's because both
Carlos and Kelly won for the third week in a row.
For
Carlos it was his fifth win this season and with 31 career Snowstorm
Classic victories he needs only one more win to surpass Dave Hanechak
as the all time leader. With two races remaining this season the 30
year old Harrier frontrunner has to like his chances. Under sunny
skies and with mostly dry roads Carlos cruised around Forest Park in
38:25 for another comfortable win. Once again the older runners
dominated as a trio from the Harriers championship seniors team took
three of the next four places. Vicente Rojas clocked 40:15 to outrun
everyone but kid Carlos, quickly followed by newly minted senior David
Wright in 40:27. SMAC veteran Jim Reis ran a very impressive 41:08 to
upend Art Roberts (43:36) for the first time this year, soon followed
by Rich Clark in 41:24.
Kelly again chased the lead men around Forest Park to eventually
finish 6th overall in 41:28 while earning her seventh win this season
and 9th career Snowstorm Classic title. She has climbed into 9th spot
in the Hall of Fame. Teammate Rogina Modesto captured the master crown
with a solid 43:10 2nd place finish followed soon thereafter by
Harrier teammate Mary Misiaszek in 45:19. SMACer Sue Grant repeated as
the veteran champ with a 56:41 tally and combined with husband Don
(54:50) to capture the Valentine's Couples prize.
