Carlos Rivera and Dawn Roberts Return to Winner’s Circle
Yesterday’s
snowstorm prevented any age records but couldn’t deter two
familiar names from returning to the winner’s circle.
Harriers Carlos Rivera and Dawn Roberts each won their first
Snowstorm Classic of the season in convincing fashion. Carlos
shook off an early challenge from teammate Steve Lombardo to solo
around the 10K course in 36:53 thereby notching his 32nd
career Snowstorm Classic victory and leapfrogging over the legendary
David Hanechak to the top of the Hall of Fame leader board.
For perspective, there are normally 13 Snowstorm Classic
races each season and this is our 26th season.
Thus both Carlos and Dave each have over two and a half years
worth of wins.
As does Dawn, but more on that later. Steve
out ran the rest of the field in 38:44 to claim second while
teenager Tim Dannay took third in 39:27.
Frank Rucki edged Steve O’Neil 41:25 to 41:33 to garner
both the master and senior titles for the day while Art Roberts was
the first veteran in 48:20. John Vaughan was the second junior,
behind Mr. Dannay, with a 46:12 effort. Dawn’s
44:39 sojourn around the Forest Park roadways also earned her a 32nd
career victory further extending her lead in the women’s Hall of
Fame.
Harrier teammates Rogina Modestow in 46:15 and Elizabeth
Duquette in 48:18 placed second and third while capturing the master
and senior divisions respectively.
Fourteen year old Angelina Cavallini was the first junior
(under 20 years old) in 1:00:10 as she just missed breaking an hour
for the 6.2 miles. |
