Everett Barney Day Kicks off 20th Sizzler Season

While all eyes were on Boston on April 19th, another major running event was taking place in Springfield, the start of the Summer Sizzlers with the Everett Barney Day race. (In the latter part of the 19th century Everett Barney donated a sizeable portion of the land which now comprises Forest Park to the City of Spring- field Park Department.)
Carlos Rivera immediately began where he left off in the Snowstorm Classics, with a comfortable 18:16 victory.  Joe Fois (19:02) gave chase early to finish second while Dee Brown (19:34) was third to complete a Harrier sweep.
Kate Butler (26:15) garnered her first Sizzler win over the entertaining Harrier cross country course.
Doug Blanchard continued to rewrite the record book as the living legend added his 13th age record on the cross country course alone to his collection, a 26:09 clocking for the 73 year old Harrier.
