Brother And Sister Set 8K Record Asif Abdul-Wadud snipped two seconds off the
course record for 13 year old boys with an official clocking of 32:42. The old mark of
32:44 set by Bryan Simmons stood for 16 years and was set before Asif was born. Not to be
outdone by her older brother, Ibtihaj Amatul-Wadud navigated the 8K Forest Park course in
an impressive 37:13 to set a new record for 10 year old girls. The previous record of
45:43 was run five years ago by Fast Feet Track Club teammate Kara O'Keefe. Club president
Peter Stasz lodged a protest against Ibtihaj claiming the speedy ten year old girl
interfered with him during a ferocious sprint to the finish which she won (both were
clocked in 37:13) but the race officials unanimously denied his claim after the stewards
reviewed the video tapes of the finish. In the overall race, a tactical event early on,
Harrier Mike Roberts won his first Sizzler of the year in 29:20, with a slimmed down Elvin
Torres showing signs of a comeback with a second place 29:37. Junior Eric Fiedler took
third in 30:53. Among the women, Kathy Colwell continued her string of pr's with a first
place 32:22. Ibtihaj was second, and Krishna Longanecker placed third in 39:23. Rich Clark
was first master in 31:13 while Jim Halton took senior honors in 32:19
