Mary Ferraro Wins Again!
Just one month after making Summer Sizzler history as the first
woman in 24 years to place first overall, Mary Ferraro duplicated
that achievement with a solid 21:04 performance on the 5K cross
country course, easily defeating all challengers. She remains
undefeated this year among women on the Harrier hill and dale
course, winning her fourth women’s title in as many tries. In
addition, Mary celebrated her recent birthday by setting another
single age record, erasing the 21:28 standard for 27 year old women
set by Harrier teammate Candy Goyette just last year.
Recent EORC convert Joe Fois chased Mary up and down
the soggy Forest park trails in 22:05 for 2nd, while
Brian Goddu took 3rd for the home team with a master and
senior division winning 22:42 effort, conquering the course on which
he broke his shoulder last year.
GSHer Elizabeth Duquette continued her masterly
winning ways with a respectable 2nd place 24:04 clocking,
while Kate Butler ran 27:32 for 3rd woman. Somewhat muggy
conditions and soggy ground greeted the runners after six
consecutive days of rainy weather, including rains in the morning,
although the overcast skies cleared somewhat in time for the race.
