Ron Lombardi Sizzles; Mary Ferraro Wins #12
With both the heat and the humidity in the 90’s, Ron Lombardi wasn’t
the only runner to sizzle around the 8K course, but he was the
fastest. The Connecticut accountant and long time Harrier sweated
like it was tax season in 28:59 to win the eleventh Summer Sizzler
of his career. He is the 13th different runner to win
this year.
Compatriot
Brent Coon worked his way around steamy Forest Park in 30:27 for 2nd
while Mike Montemagni made it a GSH sweep by perspiring for 31:48
for 3rd , also earning master’s honors. Art Roberts
took the senior crown in a hot 32:44 while Bruce Rockwell scorched a
36:49 as first veteran.
Mary
Ferraro didn’t miss a beat in the sweltering conditions, cooking
over the pavement in 32:10 for her 12th Sizzler win of
the season. Kristin Ashe burned a 35:34 for runner up status while
Carol L’Esperance toasted a 36:04 in her first effort on the
course this summer, good for both the master and senior title.
Only
two races remain before the 2003 Summer Sizzler season is consigned
to the Harrier history books, one more 5K on the cross country
course next week, then the final 8K on the roads on August 27th.
