John
Cote ran exactly 4 kilometers per hour to notch his third Summer
Sizzler crown. The Harrier master clocked an even 30 minutes on the
8K road course while outdistancing 2nd place finisher Jim McCann
(31:02) and new teammate Richard Clark (31:24) who edged senior team
member Art Roberts (31:51) in the Harriers strongest division.
The Harrier veterans may soon have
something to say about that. Charlie Towse set a record for 66 year
old men with superb 34:49 effort, slicing 44 seconds off a Doug
Blanchard standard which had stood for 12 years. With both Art
Roberts and Bill Lord joining the veterans within a month, team
bragging rights appear to be up for grabs.
Elizabeth ran over a minute and a
half faster then her Barney Day trip around the 8K course, striding
35:10 while winning her 42nd lifetime Summer Sizzler. CMSer Mary
Ryczek had to settle for second in 36:38 but for her efforts she set
a new record for 58 year old women, handily erasing the 38:10
standard established by Harrier Doris Aronson 14 years ago. Bobbi
Smith returned to the racing scene with a third place 45:29.
