Carlos Rivera Breezes in Return; Kelly Heroux Wins
Her Fourth
During the 25 year history of the Summer Sizzlers Carlos Rivera has
won more races then anyone else. In his first official start this
season he showed why. Just a few days past his 30th birthday the well
known Harrier won his 46th Summer Sizzler with a convincing wire to
wire 27:25, a full three minutes ahead of eighteen year old Mike Bagge
(30:25). Third place finisher Rich Clark (30:55) won both the master
and senior divisions over GSH teammate Bill Martin (31:59). So far
this season seven different runners have won the seven races.
Not so for the women as Harriers Kelly Heroux and Elizabeth Duquette
have evenly shared first place honors this year with three wins
apiece. True to form they finished one, two, with Kelly gaining her
fourth win in a comfortable 32:25. Elizabeth earned the silver medal
and the master's title by improving to 34:44 on the year while Kim
Buescher took third in 35:36.
Overcast skies and cool temperatures were a welcome relief from the
early season summer heat wave.
