Jason Hewitt Joins Hall of Fame;
Kelly Heroux Wins #5
Elizabeth
Duquette Lowers Age Record
After three 8th’s, a 4th and
a 2nd place finish so far this season, Jason Hewitt
finally broke on top for his first Summer Sizzler crown.
The 25 year old runner ran a course pr 20:17 to outleg
Harrier senior Steve O’Neil’s 20:48.
The Las Vegas crowd cashed show tickets on Joe Fois for his 3rd
place 21:02 effort. In
winning, Jason becomes the eighth different runner to win a Summer
Sizzler out of the eight races held so far this year.
Seth Roberts (21:43) and Bill Martin (22:03) followed Steve
for a Harrier senior team sweep of the both the Masters and Senior
divisions, further evidence of the strength of the Harrier senior
men’s team.
Unlike the men, the women aren’t sharing the blue
ribbons as Kelly Heroux won her fifth race of the season and fourth
in a row. The steadily
improving Harrier clocked 21:15 to capture fourth overall.
Teammate Elizabeth Duquette, the only other women to win a
Sizzler this year, took second in 23:27 thus lowering the cross
country course record for 49 year old women, which she set two weeks
ago, by another 32 seconds. EORCer
Kim Buescher placed third for the women in 23:37.
