Eric Brown Joins Hall of
Fame; Kelly Heroux Wins #7
Elizabeth
Duquette Lowers Age Record Again
The headline may seem vaguely familiar this déjà vu Summer Sizzler
Season. After a couple of fifth place finishes, a fourth, and three
thirds, Eric Brown won his first Summer Sizzler title with a 21:08
clocking on the Harrier cross country course. He thus joins the
Summer Sizzler Hall of Fame and extends the list of 2004 winners,
ten different runners after the first ten races. Bill Martin was 2nd
overall while capturing both the master and senior titles with a
21:21 effort on a warm and humid summer evening.
Kelly Heroux also began the season
without a Summer Sizzler win. She now has seven of them, including
six in a row. Her 21:27 victory (3rd place overall) moves her into a
tie with Mary Hernandez for 11th spot on the all time win list.
Heather Wenninger, no stranger to Summer Sizzler titles with sixteen
herself, came in 2nd in 23:02 despite an errant turn.
Over the years Elizabeth Duquette has
made a habit of setting records on the cross country course, and
then lowering them for good measure. Her 23:11 effort sliced another
16 seconds off this year's record, for 49 year old women, the third
time she has set it this season. She currently holds eight age
records on the course.
Elizabeth Cullinan was the first junior girl in 24:51, with Lauren
Stocker 2nd in 26:45. Sean Docherty won the junior boys title in
26:54 followed by his eleven year old brother Kevin, who outkicked a
couple of high school girls in 31:24.
