Carlos
Rivera and Kelly Heroux Repeat
Carlos Rivera became the first double winner of the season in a
competitive 8K foot race through Forest Park. Collegians Joe Hegarty
and Tom Walsh, both Cathedral High Alumni, kept the pressure on
throughout the race, but neither could catch the speedy Harrier.
Carlos Summer Sizzled an impressive 27:05 to Joe's 27:35 followed by
Tom's 28:35 as the three ran away from the rest of the field. For
Carlos it was his 47th career Summer Sizzler win and the fastest
time this year. Elvin Torres won the master's division with a 4th
place 30:32 while Bill Martin took the senior title with a 5th place
31:26.
Kelly Heroux continued her winning
ways with a solid 31:52 effort. Her seventh consecutive win, and
eighth this season, moves her into sole possession of the #11
ranking in the Summer Sizzler Hall of Fame all time win list. First
master and Hall of Fame leader Elizabeth Duquette was 2nd overall in
34:58 while Colleen Cummings (37:11) edged 1st junior Meghan Lynch
(37:15) for third. Mom Kathy Lynch (37:47) was second master as the
host club swept the first five spots for the women.
