Peter Fratini Cruises to
Win;
Amy Nedeau Fastest Since 1989
Peter Fratini won the race while Amy Nedeau ran the fastest woman's
time in fifteen years on the Summer Sizzler cross country course.
Peter earned his third lifetime
Summer Sizzler crown with a 19:18 clocking as the speedy Harrier
became the 11th different runner (out of twelve races) to win a
Sizzler this year. Seth Roberts placed 3rd in 22:31 to win both the
master and senior divisions, while Charlie Towse was the first
veteran in 24:13, just missing one of those tough Doug Blanchard age
marks.
But the headline story was 2nd place
finisher overall Amy Nedeau whose 19:44 was the fastest woman's time
since Nicole McGilpin narrowly missed the course record in 1989 with
a 19:31 effort. Amy's impressive first tour of the infamous Harrier
course did result in a new age record for 29 year old women,
chopping over a minute off the 20:57 standard set by Harrier Coleen
Walsh in 1984. Amy, who competes for the Boston Athletic Association
(the folks who put on that Marathon every year), has been battling
an injury for the past year or so and its nice to see the Western
Mass native rounding back into shape. Several of our senior men's
team recall her 7th place finish at the USATF National Club Cross
Country Championships in Rocklin, California, in 2002 where she led
the BAA women to a third place finish.
In today's race, fifteen year old
Elizabeth Cullinan placed 2nd among the women in 24:44, followed by
Aimee St. Hilaire in 3rd in 25:41.
