Dan
Tuohey Newest Member of Hall of Fame
Nadia Baadj and Elizabeth Duquette Set Age Records
Dan Tuohey added his name to the
long list of 2004 Summer Sizzler winners (12 so far) with a solid
19:21 tour of the Harrier cross country course. The 21 year old also
becomes the 119th member, on the men's side, of the Summer Sizzler
Hall of Fame. Nineteen year old Mario Franco and GSHer Brent Coon chased Dan up and down the five thousand
meters of Forest Park trails with Mario (19:42) outlegging Brent
(19:52) to the finish. Doug Cummings was the first men's master in
24:09 while Harrier Patrick Kennedy won both the senior and veteran
divisions.
But it was the women who
altered the record books as a trio of speedy Harriers raced each
other, the clock and the challenging course. When the dust settled
Nadia Baadj had earned her third Summer Sizzler title (joining a
rather elite group of others with three lifetime wins: Nancy Conz,
Mary Fagan, and Eileen Green). Nadia's time of 20:10 shattered one
of the oldest records on the Harrier books, the record for 21 year
old women of 22:05 set by GSHer Nicole Hill on June 21, 1983, about
a month before Nadia was born. Nine time winner Kelly Heroux settled
for second place this week with a quick 21:34. Not to be outdone by
the kids, 3rd place finisher Elizabeth Duquette lowered the record
for 49 year old women for the 4th time this year (demonstrating the
rationale for the "one gift certificate per age record per
person per year" rule) with a 23:03 clocking which eclipses the
23:11 standard she set a month ago.
