Carlos
Rivera Now Has 49; Christina Langevin Wins 3rd
After
a slow start, Carlos Rivera is picking up the pace. The Hall of Fame
leader didn’t win his first 2004 Summer Sizzler until the seventh
race of the season but has now won three of the last five races, for
a total of four wins this year, all on the 8K road course.
The quintessential Harrier now has 49 career victories, a
record that won’t be challenged any time soon.
Despite
warm, muggy conditions, Carlos soloed around the outskirts of Forest
Park in 28:18, a full three minutes ahead of his nearest
challengers, a trio of teenagers, Cory Rintoul (31:28), David
Estabrook (32:24), and Victor Gras (33:05).
Harrier Bill Martin again won both the master and senior
titles with a 5th place overall 33:19, just ahead of
EORC’s John Dent (34:07).
GSHer Art Roberts continued to enjoy his new veteran division
with a 34:37 1st place effort.
Art claimed his first USATF-New England road championship as
a veteran at the Stowe, Vermont, 8 miler on Sunday, earning 10 hard
to get USATF-NE individual Grand Prix points.
One
week after Nadia Baadj accomplished the task, Christina Langevin of
Wilbraham won her third lifetime Summer Sizzler crown with a steady
35:34 effort.
Kathy Lynch won the women’s master division with a 2nd
place 37:29 while Kim Spellacy took 3rd in 40:09.
Thirteen year old Ahinoan Pollack won the junior girl
division in 52:00 flat during her inaugural trip around the Harrier
8K course.
