Familiar Names: Carlos
Rivera,
Kelly Heroux, and Elizabeth Duquette
Harriers
Carlos Rivera, Kelly Heroux and Elizabeth Duquette have been
dominating the Summer Sizzler headlines all year, so this week's
results have a familiar ring to them. Cooler temperatures brought
about by a recent storm front made for a mildly soggy cross country
course but faster times. And the runners were ready to take
advantage.
GSH teammates Carlos, Paul Fratini,
and Brent Coon took off at the sound of the Sacramento cowbell for a
good old fashioned footrace. Brent hung on for three kilometers
before settling into third place (20:01), leaving Carlos and Paul to
vie for the coveted Sizzler crown. The two speedsters charged up
hill and down dale in tandem, neither giving an inch until the
finish line at the top of the final hill, where Carlos pulled ahead
for a 17:46 to 17:50 victory. Both times are the fastest on the
course this year and for Carlos it was his 50th lifetime Summer
Sizzler win. Seth Roberts continued the GSH senior team custom of
winning both the master and senior titles with a 22:00 clocking
followed closely by first junior Dave Estabrook in 20:03.
Kelly Heroux continued her stellar
Summer Sizzler season by winning her tenth race of the year in
21:22. First master Elizabeth Duquette took second overall in 22:42,
thereby lowering for the fifth time this season the age record for
49 year old women. Kathy Lynch completed a Harrier sweep as second
master, 3rd overall in 24:57 while thirteen year old Ahinoan Pollack
won the junior girl division in 29:46 on her first tour of the
Harrier 5K cross country course.
