It’s “Groundhog’s
Day” as Carlos Rivera and Kelly Heroux Win Again
Elizabeth Duquette Clips Another Age Record
Just
like the movie, the Summer Sizzlers keep repeating themselves. The
daily double of Carlos Rivera (28:05) and Kelly Heroux (32:33) paid
off for the fifth time this year as the two Harriers cruised to
comfortable wins. For Carlos it was his fifth win in the last seven
races, giving him six wins for year and a list leading 51 all time
Summer Sizzlers victories. Brent Coon stayed with the leader though
the first two miles and finished in 30:13 for second while Steve
O'Neil kept the GSH senior tradition alive by winning both the
master and senior titles with a third place 30:44. Patrick Kennedy
(43:35) scored for the home team with a ten second victory over
EORC's Tony Lucia (43:45) in the veteran's (over 60) division.
Kelly won her eleventh race this year
by outrunning last year's multi-race winner Mary Ferraro (33:35) and
first master Elizabeth Duquette (40:11) whose tenacious effort
across the field at the finish overcame the warm, humid conditions
and resulted in a new record for 49 year old women, snipping two
seconds from the standard set by CMSer Mary Ryczek nine years ago.
Elizabeth thus adds Summer Sizzler age record #12 to her collection.
Thirteen year old Ahinoam Pollack won
the junior girl division for the third consecutive race. Her 42:17
effort was nearly ten minutes faster then her inaugural 8K two weeks
ago.
