Ron Lombardi Masters Cross
Country for a Baker’s Dozen
Kelly Heroux Has an Even Dozen
Charlie
Towse Topples another Doug Blanchard Age Record
Master Ron Lombardi showed the kids a thing or two about cross
country running as the Connecticut based Harrier clocked 18:21 on a
soggy Forest Park course to earn his 13th lifetime Summer Sizzler
victory. The Palmer High and Springfield College alumnus thus moves
into 8th place in the Sizzler Hall of Fame with his victories spread
over the past two decades. Teammate (by way of Springfield College
and the Harriers) Brent Coon took second while lowering his season
best to 19:22 while seventeen year old Ivan Codero was 3rd in 20:08
to win the junior division. Brian Goddu led the seniors in 23:03.
Charlie Towse now has book end age records, one on each course, as
the 66 year old Harrier ran an impressive 23:19, toppling the
standard of 24:05 set by legendary GSHer Doug Blanchard twelve years
ago.
Kelly Heroux led the women for the
12th time this year, zipping up and down the trails in 21:55 to edge
teammate Mary Ferraro (22:03). Last season Mary clicked for 14
Summer Sizzler victories and Kelly is on pace to duplicate that
achievement. Aimee St. Hilaire completed a GSH sweep with a 3rd
place 23:58, while Noreen Smith earned master honors with a solid
24:09 effort during her inaugural tour of the famous course.
