Rivera Clocks 52nd Sizzler Victory
Mary Ferraro Gains 15th
Carlos Rivera and Brent Coon evidenced few effects from this past
weekend's Bridge of Flowers race and its infamous hill. In fact both
clocked season pr's for the 8K road course.
At the sound of the Sacramento cow
bell, the two Harrier teammates bolted into a lead which was simply
extended throughout the race. Brent matched strides with Carlos for
the first two thousand meters or so before Carlos sped away to his
season leading 26:42 and 52nd lifetime Summer Sizzler crown. To put
it in perspective, Carlos has now won 10% of all the Summer Sizzlers
held these past 25 years. After easing a bit, Brent regained his
form and followed Carlos in 29:16 for 2nd . CMSer Frank Rucki took
3rd in 30:05, capturing both the master and senior titles in the
process. Bruce Rockwell garnered veterans' (over 60) honors in
37:53.
Mary Ferraro took advantage of the
delightful summer evening to run 32:03 and win her first Summer
Sizzler since last year when she clicked for 14 wins. In the process
she turned the tables on this year's multiple winner Kelly Heroux
who finished 2nd in 32:45. Colleen Cummings completed yet another
Harrier women's sweep with a third place 35:10.
Andy Ducomb and Elizabeth Cullinan,
both fifteen years old, were the first juniors across the finish
line with Andy (38:28) just outracing Elizabeth (38:35).
