SUMMER SIZZLER #2 – 5K
APRIL 26, 2006
The
tradition continues… starting the race on
time.
Another sunny race day with temperatures in the
low 60’s but the southwest wind of 14 m.p.h. made the air feel
cooler.
Excitement was also in the air today as GIRL POWER PREVAILED with Harrier women Mary Ferraro (20:38) and Meg
Mathews (20:47) outrunning the men by finishing first and second
overall on the tough cross country course.
Breezing on the up hill finish was first male and third place finisher
Harrier master Billy Rowe
(20:57).
More excitement was to follow as the 61 year old
age record previously held by Doug Blanchard (22:52) was smashed by
second place male finisher and SMAC veteran Peter
Gagarin (21:36).
SMAC member Phil
Bricker (22:12) and Maura
McDonald (23:49) breathlessly and confidently finished third for
the men and women.
A special thank you to the volunteers of the week, Brian
Goddu, Colleen Cummings, Brian
Gibbons and Bruce Kurtz.
