Despite the 55 degree dreary and rainy weather,
eighteen runners competed at this week’s 5K race.
Harrier Steve
Lombardo won his second Summer Sizzler race of the year with a
blazing time of 19:35. The less than perfect conditions complete with a slippery and
muddy cross country course did not seem to affect Steve whatsoever. Following
Steve was harrier/first senior Seth
Roberts who completed the course with an impressive time of 22:32.
Less than a minute behind Seth were Doug
Cummings (23:26; first master) and Colleen
Cummings (23:34; first
female finisher) pushing and supporting each other to the very end.
The first male runner of the 20-29 age group was harrier David
Estabrook who placed 5th with a time of 23:45.
Not too far behind David was Don
Ryan who was the first junior with a 6th place finish
in a time of 24:15.
SMAC’er Don Grant
secured the win for the Veterans age group with a 15th
place finish and a time of 30:44.
Finally, the predicted time winner of the evening was Doug
Cummings who was off his predicted time by a mere 11 seconds.
After the race the racers ran an extra .2 of a
mile for shelter from the pouring rain and of course the weekly
refreshments of water, twizzlers, and cookies.
A special thank you to the volunteers of the week; Brian
Goddu, Bruce Kurtz, Joe Fois and
Meghan Lynch.
