Summer Sizzler #8 - 5K
June 7th, 2006

Despite the 55 degree dreary and rainy weather, eighteen runners competed at this week’s 5K race.

Harrier Steve Lombardo won his second Summer Sizzler race of the year with a blazing time of 19:35.  The less than perfect conditions complete with a slippery and muddy cross country course did not seem to affect Steve whatsoever.  Following Steve was harrier/first senior Seth Roberts who completed the course with an impressive time of 22:32.  Less than a minute behind Seth were Doug Cummings (23:26; first master) and Colleen Cummings (23:34; first female finisher) pushing and supporting each other to the very end.  The first male runner of the 20-29 age group was harrier David Estabrook who placed 5th with a time of 23:45.  Not too far behind David was Don Ryan who was the first junior with a 6th place finish in a time of 24:15.  SMAC’er Don Grant secured the win for the Veterans age group with a 15th place finish and a time of 30:44.  Finally, the predicted time winner of the evening was Doug Cummings who was off his predicted time by a mere 11 seconds.

After the race the racers ran an extra .2 of a mile for shelter from the pouring rain and of course the weekly refreshments of water, twizzlers, and cookies.

A special thank you to the volunteers of the week; Brian Goddu, Bruce Kurtz, Joe Fois and Meghan Lynch.
