Sizzle and StormIt was a summer sizzler
this evening! Triple digits for temperatures with heat indices of
107 degrees. 12 brave runners came to Forest Park getting more than
they bargained for. Spectacular thunder, lightening and winds came
in around 5:30 making it impossible to finish marking the 5K course.
What little was marked was washed away with the torrential rain.
When the storm cleared there were downed trees, limbs and branches
in and around Forest Park. The race began promptly at 6:34 under
clear skies and lots of humidity.
With his first Summer Sizzler win for the 2006
series was harrier Tom Walsh (18:37). Harrier Paul Fratini
(18:51) was only 2 seconds away from the course record. Harrier
Peter Fratini (20:04) followed with a third place finish.
First senior was harrier Seth Roberts
(22:56). First female and first junior was 14 year old Mandy
Sullivan (27:26) followed by Kristen Walsh (27:32) and
coming in third for the females was 8 year old harrier Julie
Carroll (36:44). First veteran was EORC’s Bob Massaro
(29:35)
This weeks predicted time winner was Don
Grant (31:18). Don was only off by 18 seconds.
A special thanks to the volunteers of the
week, Meghan Lynch, Bruce Kurtz, Brian Goddu, Barbara
Bosworth and Mike Lemay and Bill Carroll.
