FERRARO WINS THE FIRST RACE OF THE SEASON
Starting the Summer Sizzlers on time
continues with a new season.The race participants were hoping for
Everett Barney to make an appearance at the first race of the 28th
Season. Could he top the talented field with his running skills? The
topic of conversation before the race was what condition was the
course in after the recent Nor’easter, but little did the
participants know that the course fairies were hard at work all
winter and spring keeping the course clear of debris. Forest Park
was bustling with action, it was the place to be on a pleasant
spring evening.
Prior to the start of the race GSH president Pete Stasz gave
the ceremonial Everett Barney speech to the 30 race participants
with the sun shining for the first time in many days.
Harrier Mary Ferraro pushed through her final steps to not
only come in first overall but to smash the 30 year old age group
record by over a minute with a time of 20:04. Another Harrier Joe
Fois (20:45) was the first male and second overall followed by
harrier Meaghan Mathews (20:46) who was the second female and
third overall. First senior was harrier Steve O’Neil (21:22)
and fellow harrier Barbara Bosworth was the first master
female. Seventeen year old Kevin Clark (21:29) was the first
junior.
A special thank you to Steve O’Neil and Casey, Tim Londo,
Colleen Cummings and Bruce Kurtz for helping out with
so many aspects of this evenings race.
