Phil Gingras Joins Sizzler Hall of Fame
With a wire to wire victory,
Westfield State grad and elementary school teacher Phil Gingras
added his name to the Summer Sizzler Hall of Fame (all previous
winners) with an unchallenged 27:36 tour of the 8K road course.
Harrier Ian Wright cruised to second in 31:09 while teammate Brian
McCarthy took masters honors with a third place 33:34. Gerry Kane
was the first senior (over 50 per USATF) while Harrier James Liebel
won the veterans title (over 60) in 41:49.
Among the women, GSHer
Rogina Modestow won her third title of the season with a 35:25
clocking, also capturing the masters crown. Janet Aronson took
second in both divisions in 39:27, while Harrier Kathy McCarthy was
the first senior in 42:59.
Thanks to Brian
Donoghue and Ian, a snazzy addition to the race was the inaugural
showing of the brand new Fast Feet promotional tent which will soon
become a common sight at local road races. Although tonight’s
weather was near picture perfect, the tent is sure to be a crowd
pleaser when the weather isn’t quite so co-operative. |
