Spencer Beaver Wins Again
Katie Woytowicz Joins Summer Sizzler Hall of Fame
The locally famous Beaver children
aren’t the only speedy runners in the family. Dad Spencer Beaver
notched his second Summer Sizzler victory of the season, and fourth
lifetime, with a 22:03 jaunt over the Harrier cross country course.
The EORC stalwart took advantage of wayward GSHer Luis Reynoso, who
finished 2nd in 22:21 despite having to retrace his steps
after veering slightly off course. Seth Roberts redeemed the host
club’s honors with a 3rd place 23:19 to win both the
masters (over 40) and senior (over 50) titles, outrunning teammates
Dan McNair (23:37) and Rich Clark (23:55). Empire One’s Bob
Massaro captured the veteran (over 60) division with a 30:02
clocking while 16 year old Duke Pycko was the 1st junior
in 26;19.
Katie Woytowicz of
Wilbraham scampered over the hills and dales of Forest Park in
24:15 to earn her first Summer Sizzler crown and thus join the
Summer Sizzler Hall of Fame (a list of all Summer Sizzler winners
over the past 30 years). Harrier juniors Julie Carroll (26:12) and
Megan Randall (27:11) followed in 2nd and 3rd.
Somewhat older teammate Carol L’esperance swept the women’s open,
masters, senior and veteran titles with an impressive 28:09
clocking, lowering the course record for 60 year old women of 28:52
she set on April 28th. |
