Luis Reynoso Earns Third Win
Nora Garrity Joins Summer Sizzler Hall of Fame
Carol L’Esperance Lowers Age Record Again
On a rainy Wednesday
evening a handful of Summer Sizzler faithful tested their mettle on
the Harrier 5K cross country course. A four way challenge for the
win soon developed over the soggy Forest Park course, with teenagers
Cameron Cook, Rafael Roque and Harrier Luis Reynoso racing against
near master Harrier Mike Lescarbeau. With an assist from an errant
Rafael, Luis reached the final hill first and maintained his lead to
finish in 20:25, thus earning his third Summer Sizzler win and
moving to the first page of the Hall of Fame listings. Cameron
crossed 2nd in 20:47 narrowly outrunning Rafael (20:54)
who in turn just outsprinted Mike (20:55). Late starting Seth
Roberts overcame that disadvantage to earn 1st master
(over 40) and 1st senior (over 50) honors in 24:18.
Among the women,
sixteen year old Cathedral student Nora Garrity, traversing familiar
terrain (parts of the Cathedral cross country course are on the
Harrier course), earned her first Summer Sizzler victory with a
solid 23:43 clocking. She thus joins the Summer Sizzler Hall of
Fame (all previous winners). Twelve year old Julie Carroll was 2nd
in 24:19 while Carol L’Esperance again captured masters, seniors and
veterans honors with a 26:50 effort, slicing another 1:19 off the
record for 60 year old women she set two weeks ago. It’s the third
time this season Carol has lowered the age record. Perhaps in 44
and 48 year, respectively, Nora and Julie will lower that record
even further. |
