Race Report:

The final day of July marked the 16th race in the 20 race Summer Sizzler series.  With the race director on vacation splashing in the pristine waters of Lake George, the remaining ragtag band of volunteers pulled together to enable the race to go off without a hitch.  Twenty-five runners toed the line on this fine evening for running.

As I review the video footage from tonight’s race it was clear that GSH’s Cameron Scott would not be denied in his quest for a second Sizzler victory.  Cameron grabbed an early lead over Alex White that he would not relinquish, ultimately crossing the finish line in 21:22 for his second victory of the season, and second of his career.  Alex hung on for second place with a time of 21:33 followed by Sean Vieten in 22:10.  Male age group winners were Cameron in the Youth (0-19) division, Sean was first in the Open (20-39) division, Mark Miller’s 26:30 earned him first Master (40-49), GSH’s Doug Bielefeld won the Senior (50-59) division in 26:42 and GSH’s Steve O’Neil took first in the Veteran (60-69) division with a time of 22:23.  It should be noted that Steve came within 1 second of tying the Age 62 record of 22:22 held by GSH’s own Art Roberts. Steve will have two more chances this season to get his name in the record books.

GSH’s Julie Carroll continued her domination of the 2013 Summer Sizzler series, running to another victory with a PR of 22:31.  The win was Julie’s 8th of the season (and 3rd in a row) and the 16th of her career.  The 16th win moves her into a tie for 12th place on the all-time female win list with Nicole McGilpin.  Second place belonged to GSH’s Kiana Eaton with a time of 24:44 and Maura Feeney took the final podium spot with a time of 30:35.  Female age group winners were Julie in the Youth division, Maura in the Open division and Ann Taupier won the Master division with a time of 31:26.

Volunteers for the evening were Ed Carroll, Brian McCarthy, Kathy McCarthy, Brian Goddu, Bruce Kurtz and Pete Stasz.  Thanks to all the runners, spectators and volunteers for making this a great race.  Our race director will be back on the scene next week for Race #17, the 8,000  meter road race.  I hope to see you all again.
