Rivera and Roberts Each Notch #5
Harrier teammates Carlos Rivera
and Dawn Roberts each notched their 5th Snowstorm Classic win
of the season. With the 10K Forest Park course mostly free of the ice and snow which has
plagued runners the past several weeks, times were noticeably improved. Rivera again
outran master winner Steve O’Neil. This time the race was over early
as Rivera took command at the top of the initial hill and never looked back, steadily
increasing his lead until his 34:55 finish. CMS’s O’Neil crossed in 36:04, while
Craig Brenner, a visitor from the Boston based Back Bay Road Runners,
captured 3rd in 36:27. Roberts led a Harrier sweep of the women’s
race, clocking 46:42, followed by Mary Misiaszek in 47:49 and Sharon
Mikaelian in 49:43.
Eight year old Robert Bradley of
the Connecticut based youth club New Britain Dog Pound zipped over the ten thousand
certified meters in 44:07 to establish a new record for youngsters 10 and under, erasing
the 45:05 standard set just last year by Hartford Track Club’s Justin Siwik.
