Snowless Snowstorms Continue
The Snowstorm
Classics moved past January 8th with nary a snowflake in sight and two runners
on opposite ends of the age spectrum took advantage of the dry roads and sunny skies to
set new records.
Zofia
Turosz had the easier task as the Hartford Track Club dynamo became the first 61 year
woman to finish the 10K Forest Park course, automatically establishing a new age record.
However Zofia did more then plug a gap in the record books. Her 49:17 clocking is the
fastest time for any woman over sixty, including her own 60 year old record set last year.
She now holds five records on the 10K course and eleven Snowstorm Classic age records
overall.
Jesse
Regnier is nearly half a century younger and the speedy youngster is wasting no time with
his own collection of age records. The Fast Feet Track Club 12 year old scampered over the
10,000 meters in 41:29 handily erasing the 42:54 standard set by SMACer Louis Parrot way
back in 1987. Jesse now has two consecutive 10K marks to go with the 5K record he set
earlier this season.
Sandu
Rebenciuc, representing the Army team, won the race with a 35:46 workout, followed by
first master Steve O’Neil in 36:25 and first junior Tom Bousquet in 36:46.
Dawn
Roberts won her first Snowstorm Classic this season with a steady 45:52 effort. The
Harrier mainstay is second among the women for most Snowstorm Classic victories. Race
director Mary Misiaszek was 2nd in 48:16 followed by Zofia.
