Fratini, Roberts Enjoy Warm?
Temperatures
OK, so it wasn’t Miami. But with bright sunshine and no winds the weather was much
improved over the past few weeks. With temperatures climbing into the low teens one could
almost describe conditions as pleasant. Almost.
Paul
Fratini notched his first Snowstorm Classic win of the season in a workmanlike 17:49. The
affable Harrier opened an early lead on the picturesque Forest Park course, negotiated the
couple of snow piles with agility, and was never seriously challenged by either the speedy
juniors nor the stamina hardened veterans. Members of the latter category came the
closest, with CMSer’s Steve O’Neil (18:27) and Frank Rucki (18:54) placing 2nd
and 3rd.
Dawn
Roberts added to her collection of Snowstorm Classic victories with an equally convincing
22:17 outing. Visitor Elizabeth Spelman (23:45) of the Greater Boston Track Club edged out
Betty Quinn (23:52) for both runner-up and master’s honors.
One new
age record was established, the first in several weeks, as fifty-five year old Marjorie
Kos of the Millrose Athletic Association (NY) ran the five thousand meters in 24:14 to
eliminate the 24:30 standard set by Janice Partyka six years ago.
