Hearty Harriers Handle
Weather
Club members dominated the results, capturing the top seven places for both the men and
the women and sweeping all the division titles. Bad weather…or at least bad weather
reports….don’t stop the Harriers from their appointed rounds!
Persistence finally paid off for
Peter Fratini. After nearly twenty years of trying Pete notched the first Snowstorm
Classic victory of his career in 18:42. Bill Romito took 2nd and master honors in 19:21 as
he held off fast closing John Bigos (19:28). Jim Sullivan celebrated his 36th birthday
with a 4th place 19:30 effort.
Mary Misiaszek added to her career
victory total with her first win this season, a fine 23:28 outing over the ice and slush
covered roads. Kathy Lynch (25:21) and Mary Gubala (25:30) took the silver and bronze.
Art Roberts (21:07) and Ellen
Bellicchi (26:51) were the first seniors while David Estabrook (20:22) was the first
junior.
Despite the often poor traction,
Doug Blanchard, AKA The Champ, recorded his thirteenth consecutive age record on the five
kilometer course, clocking 26:43 to topple the 26:52 standard set by fellow GSHer Robert
Knowlton seven years ago. Remarkable!
