Reed, Bercovici and snow dust
10K course
A light dusting of snow added to the mid-winter difficulties of the 10K course for the
Snowstorm Classic faithful. Undaunted by the slippery conditions, Jason Reed bolted into
the lead at the sound of the gun and charged up the initial hill to open a commanding lead
a la Sandu Rebenciuc. The 22 year old Harrier thus recorded his first Snowstorm Classic
win with a wire to wire 40:22. Master teammates John Bigos (40:43) and Bill Romito (41:00)
were only able to narrow the gap somewhat as they duked it out for the silver and bronze.
Fourteen year old Troy Trailblazer David Raucci took fourth in 41:20 to capture junior
honors while GSHer Art Roberts surprised no one by winning the senior division with a
workmanlike 43:59.
Deb Bercovici continued to impress
by winning the women’s race in 46:59 followed by Harriers Mary Misiaszek (49:41) and
Kathy Lynch (51:33). Daughter Meghan Lynch took the junior title in 55:31 while Ellen
Bellecchi was again the first senior in 55:28.
With the days now getting longer
and warmer weather assuredly on the way, the Snowstorm Classics head into their final
month and the final four races of our 21st season, ie. two more 5K’s and two more 10
K’s. The Spring racing season is just around the corner.
