Fratini and Hachigian Conquer
Winter Test
Just when you thought it was save to go outside for the start of the season’s last
5K, gusty winds developed and dropping temperatures began refreezing the melting slush
from last night’s two inch snowfall. The long winter continues.
Undaunted, Harriers Paul Fratini
and Dana Hichigian met winter’s latest challenge with solid winning performances.
Paul cruised over the frozen Forest Park tundra with GLRR senior Bill Dixon in close
pursuit before sprinting to a 17:57 victory. Mr. Dixon crossed three ticks later in 18:00
followed by Mike Roberts in 18:49. David Estabrook (20:27) outraced a contingent of East
Longmeadow tracksters for the junior title.
Dana led a trio of GSH women across
the finish line with a well run 21:33 effort outkicking visiting Texan Bill Broderick
(21:34) in the process. Newly joined Deb Bercovici placed second in 22:35 followed
by Mary Misiaszek in 22:58. Bobbi Smith (26:37) outraced teammate Ellen Bellicchi (26:41)
for senior honors with Katie Compton (26:57) the first junior.
The 21st Snowstorm
Classic season concludes this coming Saturday on the 10K course.
