Pitts and Haryasz Outrun Record Crowd
Fresh off an individual age record two weeks ago, Southwick’s
junior running sensation Andrew Pitts captured his first Snowstorm
Classic victory with a wire to wire 16:41 effort. Bolting up the
hill at the start, the 16 year old speedster literally ran away from
an all time record Snowstorm Classic crowd, building a commanding
lead by the first kilometer, then cruising unchallenged over the
remainder of the 5K Forest Park course. Parker Morse quickly settled
into 2nd where he remained to capture the silver in
17:41, while Steve Byrne held form in 3rd to finish in
18:13. Tim Brown (18:26) edged Steve O’Neil (18:28) for masters
honors while O’Neil topped Frank Rucki (1857) among the seniors.
Sue
Haryasz demonstrated why she is the overall course record holder for
women as she sped to an impressive 19:25 clocking to win both the
open and masters divisions. Harrier junior Heather Wenninger (20:23)
edged Alison Wade (20:27) for runner-up honors while Silk City
Strider (Connecticut) Ellie Lowell won the senior title in a quick
22:58.
