Carlos Rivera Races to Fifth Win Poor road conditions and frigid temperatures failed to deter Carlos Rivera from his fifth Snowstorm Classic victory of the season. The ubiquitous Harrier traversed the 10K Forest Park course in 36:47 despite the frequent stretches of ice and snow rutted roads. Only Brian Nelson was able to keep Carlos in sight as the Enfield, Connecticut, speedster finished second in 38:00 flat. John Paggioli (39:48) outsprinted Travis Benanti (39:52) to the finish line for third. Steve O’Neil again topped all seniors and masters with a 40:29 clocking, topping GSH teammates John Bigos (42:21) and Mike Montemagni (43:41) among the younger set, and Neal Lamberton (46:38) and Jim Snyder (47:34) among the seniors. No juniors ran, continuing an interesting trend, as Brian Nelson was the youngest runner at age 22. Mary Misiaszek took her second women’s title of the season with a solid 46:31 performance, outdistancing Colleen Cummings (49:26) and first master Kathy Lynch (51:22). Ellen Bellicchi was first senior in 58:10. The victory moves Mary into a tie for 8th place on the Hall of Fame all time win list. |
