Kent Lemme New Sheriff in Town
Carolyn Webber Wins Again As Attendance Record Set
The Snowstorm Classics began
the New Year in grand style with the largest crowd in its 24 year
history, however slippery conditions on Washington Boulevard, a
traditional nemesis, frustrated any age record attempts. The 5K course
brought out the youthful sprinter types, but none proved to be a match
for Harrier Kent Lemme. The Williamstown resident journeyed from the
far northwestern corner of Massachusetts for his debut Snowstorm
Classic, then simply ran away from the field with a stellar 16:12
performance. Rumors quickly circulated that Kent has been secretly
training in the rarified altitude of Albuquerque, New Mexico (check
the Junior Olympic cross country photos for proof) but what is certain
is that dad also has some talent.
Carlos
Rivera (17:18) held off GSH teammate Tom Bousquet (17:22) to top the
rest of the throng, while Doug Guertin (18:50) repeated as first
master and Frank Rucki (19:04) captured the senior crown over John
Bigos (19:08) and Steve O’Neil (19:14). Mike Bagge (19:07) placed 8th
overall to win the junior title over Chris Benoit (19:17).
Carolyn
Webber won her third race of the season with a solid 20:35 outing and
the Harrier master thus vaults into 11th spot in the Hall
of Fame with her 8th career Snowstorm Classsic victory. GSH
teammate Mary Misiaszek took the silver medal with a 21:24 effort
while Carol L’Esperance completed a Harrier sweep by winning the
senior division with a 21:32 3rd place finish.
Marissa Lapoint was the first junior in a competitive 21:49
clocking.
