Mike Pieck’s Snowstorm Classic debut resulted in a 16:57 victory as the 29 year old UMass runner by way of Vermont fought off a strong challenge from last week’s winner Tom Bousquet and regular favorite Carlos Rivera. In fact Mike became the ninth different runner to win a race this year, six of whom did so for the first time. The steadily improving Mr. Bousquet ran 17:12 for 2^nd while Carlos outraced the lead junior Andrew Lutz for the bronze medal 18:00 to 18:04. Frank Rucki (18:49) topped the masters as well as the seniors as the quick CMSer edged master Ted Adams (18:55) and re-turned the tables on senior Steve O’Neil (18:57).  
        Charlie Towse took advantage of the relatively dry roads to chop nearly half a minute off the course record for 66 year old men, a record he set two months ago. The speedy veteran churned across five thousand meters of Forest Park roadway in 21:37 vs. 22:06 on December 20^th.   
        Carolyn Webber earned her sixth title of the season in 20:01 while being persistently chased by two time winner Kelly Heroux (20:33) and a game Mary Misiaszek (21:27). Silk City Strider Bekkie Wright was 2^nd master in 22:10 while Betty Quinn (23:46) captured the senior prize over Harrier Ann Franczyk (24:56). Elizabeth Cullinan topped the junior girls in 23:07.   
        It being Valentine’s Day, the Harriers added a couples category to the prize structure, with suitable rewards including boxes of chocolates and a grand prize of a pair of tickets to see Art Garfunkle with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra on April 3^rd. After obtaining an advisory opinion from the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, approval from the state legislature and consulting with our own staff of attorneys, we settled on a definition of "couple" as one male and one female runner. Naturally controversy immediately ensued and numerous lawsuits are anticipated. Cupid is expected to be a key witness.  
        Carlos Rivera (18:00) and Carolyn Webber (20:01), deciding to leave nothing to chance, quickly teamed up and not surprisingly led all couples in 38:01 while competing in the 60 to 79 division.  Doug Guertin (19:27) and Mary Misiaszek (21:27) combined for 40:54 to place second overall and, although also in the 60 to 79 division, took advantage of the "one prize per couple rule" to claim a box of chocolates. Pia and Tino were especially pleased. Mike Lynch (21:23) and Kelly Heroux (20:33) place 3^rd in 41:56 and won the 80 to 99 division.  
        The senior pair of Frank Rucki (18:49) and Betty Quinn (23:46) took home the chocolates in the over 100 division while placing 4^th overall in 42:35, while juniors Andrew Lutz (18:04) and Alyssa Young (27:42) won the under 40 division in 45:46. And Josh Brookman (23:37) and Emily Thomas (27:41) teamed up to win the 40 to 59 division in 51:18.
