Carlos Rivera Surpasses Gary Crowley
Sidney Letendre Wins With Age Record
Carlos Rivera slipped past Gary Crowley into second place on the all
time win list (Snowstorm Classic Hall of Fame) with a convincing
wire to wire win, his fourth this season and 26th of his
career. The ubiquitous Harrier bolted into the lead at the start,
opened a sizeable lead while climbing the first hill leaving the
park, then cruised the ten thousand meters in an unchallenged 37:09.
Teammate Brian Walsh closed the gap somewhat during the latter part
of the race to garner second in 37:48 followed by Andrew Lutz in
38:12.
Steve
O’Neil clocked his fastest time of the season in 38:28 to earn
fourth place and capture both the master and senior titles over
fellow Harrier seniors Celio Hernandez who ran fifth in 39:57, and
John Bigos who ran 6th in 40:05. Charlie Towse completed a
sweep for the home team by winning the veteran (over 60) title in
45:56, edging western New York ace Jerry Looker who scampered around
Forest Park in a very respectable 46:44.
CMSer
Sidney Letendre impressively returned to the Snowstorm Classics by
racing to her 7th career women’s title in 42:03 thereby
shattering one of the oldest Snowstorm Classic age records, the
49:34 record for 49 year old women set by Doris Aronson 22 years
ago. Carolyn Webber gave chase in 42:50 for second followed closely
by Kelly Heroux in 42:54 for third. Several minutes later
another CMSer erased another Doris Aronson age record. Mary Ryzcek
added the age 57 record to her collection with a 48:29 clocking,
slicing nearly three minutes off the 51:13 standard set by Doris 14
years ago.
