John McCarthy and Carolyn Dekker freeze the competition
53 brave and hearty souls toed the line in what might go on record as
the coldest Snowstorm Classic race in its 34 year history. Temperatures
soared from a record -15º degrees Fahrenheit during
the overnight to plus 5º
degrees
by 9 a.m., as recorded at
Westover Air Force Base, Chicopee, MA.
The cold temps and slippery roads meant not much movement in this season's
5k Best Times.
Host club Greater Springfield
Harriers took top honors as the only full squad in this week's
team results .
A change of guard amongst
female
point leaders
as Mary Guertin of GSH takes over
the top spot, while
Pete Kakos of SMAC is gradually and purposely distance himself as the
male point
leader, a lead he has held since week one.
