Sam Fisher and Julie Carroll better the rest, snow and ice
Sam Fisher becomes the first male
multiple winner this season outlasting Greater Springfield Harrier
Bill Carroll while Bill's sister Julie Carroll
was the top female overall.
Its been just over a week and a year since super storm
Nemo made
SnowStorm
Classic -Nemo 2.9.13 history when Steve O'Neil and Carolyn Dekker
inconceivably trompped and plowed through 2 feet of snow for over 6 miles and in
doing so preserving our claim-to-fame "The
races have
never been canceled throughout their history. No matter how cold it is, regardless
how much it may snow, if you get to the Skate House, you can run."
This year's storm-of-century Pax, while not leaving as much an indelible a mark
as its predeccor Nemo, did none-the-less make it difficult for runners to
traverse the 5k course as expeditiously as they may have hoped. Despite
agreeble tempatrures in the 30's, which may be the best we can do for a
Februaury thaw, any all age group records were safe. Only Rich
Larsen (20:25 4th overall) of Sugarloaf Mountain AC came close
to the 62 age record of 20:02 by fellow SMAC'r Bob Green.
In
the
male points
standings a change of guard as Shenipsit Strider Clinton Morse
overtakes GSH's own Dan McNair.
Holding on strong to the top spot, Stephanie
Yeoman's 45 point lead may be enough to
hold off Greater Springfield Harrier Mary Guertin in the the
female point
standings.
Greater Springfield Harriers take the team title as the
only full five person squad.
Next weeks 10k is the final race of the season. A post race party at Red
Rose Pizza in downtown Springfield is an annual tradition. All are welcome.
