Race Story
Week one of the Winter Classic got off to a hot start.
John Mathews made the trek down from Keene NH and his efforts were well rewarded.
The sixty plus four years young Hartford Track Club (and former Greater Springfield Harriers ) took on all comers was the
first to return back to the Skate House claiming the overall crown.
And in doing so he eclipsed the former age 64 mark set by local legend Roland Cormier way back in 2004.
He also established a new mark for oldest male to ever to win a Snowstorm Classic. The previous mark was set by another ageless wonder in Frank Rucki when Frank ran a 19:51 at age 57 back on

Sugarloaf Mountain Athletic Club's own Julie Corey's' 23:26 led all females and was 12th overall.
Lyn Walker continued to rewrite the record books. Her 26:57 (37th overall 15:54 92.5% age-graded) performance extends her age record tally to 32 in total between the 5k and 10k.
It was Empire One Running Club notching out a tight victory in the team competition over GSH and SMAC
with each club scoring an average time for their top 5 of 24:33, 24:58 and 26:48 respectively.
